DJ Cerys: Top Ten Late-Night House Party Tunes

Cerys BOX

Cerys is a London-based DJ and music expert, and we’re so lucky that she’s part of the Indeedy Inc. family. Every time she DJs she has us scrambling up to the DJ booth to find out what she’s playing or to shout “OMG I LOVE THIS!”.

We asked Cerys to share her top late-night house party tunes because we knew they would be awesome. Here’s what she chose:

“I lovvvve DJing at house parties and see them as a chance to play classic, upbeat songs that will please everybody. I also think they’re a good opportunity to try out a few obscurer numbers people won’t necessarily be familiar with, knowing the tune will have everyone throwing shapes within the first chorus. For this reason I always end up spinning a few upbeat Italo disco numbers – guaranteed to make people rush up to you to ask what the song is. Here are some of my late night house party favourites, in no particular order.”

Geno – Dexy’s Midnight Runners

Try to resist singing along to that chorus!
People From Ibiza – Sandy Marton
A Balearic summer hit that still sounds right even in the middle of Winter
Goth Star – Pictureplane
A cute song from a few years ago that takes a memorable snippet from Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Seven Wonders’ and turns it into something completely new and exciting
I Wanted to Tell Her – Ministry
Yes, this synthpop ditty is by the very same Ministry who in the early 90s had a hit with industrial banger ‘Jesus Built My Hotrod’ – who knew?!
I Wanna Be Adored – The Stone Roses
No house party is complete without this being played at least once.
Absolute – Scritti Politti
The perfect 80s pop song, blending R&B, Soul, and New Wave with innovative use of samplers and Green Gartside’s lush vocals.
When Love Breaks Down – Prefab Sprout
Another gorgeous 80s gem
Don’t Lose Your Heart Tonight – Joy Peters
An epic Italo gem sung by a flamboyant German singer
With Just A Kiss – Orlando Johnson
Another international Italo number, this time with smooth vocals by American soul singer Johnson
Why – Carly Simon
Every DJ set ever must include at least one tune with some kind of Nile Rodgers involvement, it’s the law, and with good reason – perfect final song of the night.
